Mexico: Snort Your Coke Here!

Soon you can make a run for the border to legally get your fix. Mexico has decided that it will no longer prosecute people with small amounts of drugs. Instead they will be focusing their efforts on the big time dealers. The following is from the Washington Post:

Under the law, police will not penalize people for possessing up to 5 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin. Nor does the law penalize possession of 500 milligrams of cocaine -- enough for a few lines.

The legal changes will also decriminalize the possession of limited quantities of LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms, amphetamines, ecstasy and peyote -- a psychotropic cactus found in Mexico's northern deserts.

According to the story, drug wars have been extremely violent in the past year causing hundreds of deaths. The new law will aim to go after the dealers and leave the occasional users alone.

This should be an interesting law to follow. If it works successfully it might change the views we have on drugs here in the USA. It might also boost Mexico's tourist industry. Soon icons like Rush Limbaugh, Paris Hilton, Corey Haim, Dennis Rodman, Keith Richards, George W. Bush, and others will be vacationing there for some reason.
