Son of Guide to Becoming a Music Snob

One weird result of being a music snob is when the band you like suddenly becomes popular. I've never had a problem with it, as long as the music continued to be good. In fact, many of the bands I enjoyed I lamented on why they were very mainstream popular. Pretty hypocritical to then complain about it when they become popular.

I bring this up because I was thinking back to my HS days and how weird it was when bands I was made fun of for listening to sudden;y made it big. Take Rage Against the Machine. Sure, it seems like they were always popular. But it didn't happen as fast as everyone might think. I remember hearing them on 89X (Wake Up) and deciding to buy their CD. I absolutely loved it and tried to play it for all my friends. They just laughed and said who is this. Months later we were chanting together "F$ck You, I won't do what you tell me" at dance clubs. Rather odd feeling - little bit vindication but still confusion.
