Pet Peeve

Pet peeve of mine with regards to the media is their unwillingness to challenge blatantly incorrect statements. Usually these are made by conservatives, since it's their stock in trade. But it's irritating regardless of what party makes them. And it's a travesty to our national political discussion and understanding of the facts. For example, this statement which is starting to become conventional wisdom on whether Obama has any substance behind his rhetoric. All it takes is 10 seconds to get to his website to find out how misleading that statement really is. For under issues he has tons and tons of information on where he stands. But that would require reading, which apparently people like Joe Klein have no time to do. Now, it would be fair to attack his actual positions or even fair to say his stances on certain issues are not clear enough. But to blanketly assert he has no substance when he has hours of material available on his web site is just wrong. We need to be given the truth so we elect the best leader, not the person we most want to have a beer with. Did we not learn that any local idiot can effectively be president?
