Nighttime Cold Relief

Ahhh.... There's nothing like fixing up your own drug cocktail to manage your cold. Thanks to advances in medicine, the options are endless.

For the longest time, Tylenol Cold liquid was my nighttime preferred drug. It knocked me out, while providing lucid dream entertainment. It even did a decent job of relieving chest congestion.

Unfortunately, we were flat out and I had to go with Mucinex. This stuff is fantastic as a daytime drug. Think napalm for congestion. You can actually feel the mucus burn out of your nasal passage and chest cavity and drain into your stomach. It's magical crap, which makes you feel somewhat normal during the daytime.

Unfortunately, it kind of stinks as a nighttime relief. I tossed and turned all night on the stuff. The sweet burning sensation of mucus draining kicked in 2-3 hours after I retired and kept me awake all night with the hot and cold spells.

Jesus. It was horrific. They must cut this stuff with low grade speed. Last night, I changed to Tylenol Cold tablets. After tossing and turning for 4 hours, I took some generic Nyquil to knock myself out cold.

Ahhh... sweet relief.

The first dream I had, I was changing florescent tube lighting in my parent's house. It was weird, because it was a wood paneled ceiling and it didn't look like my parent's house. I remember being nervous because my mom was worried about me falling off the ladder, scratching the ceiling, and dropping one of the tubes.

The next dream was strange too. I was inside a roomy house that was owned by this guy I know. For some odd reason, I was house sitting and watching his dog for him. In his basement he had a vast VHS collection of movies taped from TV. I sat down, turned on the TV, and started watching some of the tapes. The first tape had a Police Academy movie that cutoff midway into something pornographic. Weird. I popped in another tape and the same thing happened again. Hmmm... After this happened a couple more times, I determined that my neighbor was a genius who discovered the ultimate way to hide his pornography habit from his wife. I figured what the hell, there's no point in letting this discovery go to waste. While putting another tape in, I heard the front door open. Crap! I scrambled to put the tapes away, then I proceeded to walk upstairs to talk to the guy.

All in all, I give yesterday's experiment a C+. The dreams weren't all that great and the Tylenol tablets did not knock me out. The generic Nyquil remedied that situation, but I kept waking up every few hours. Tylenol Cold liquid fares better. It usually knocks me out cold and I don't wake up until the alarm goes off.

Nighttime Cold Relief:
  • Mucinex D
  • Tylenol Cold tablets D+
  • Tylenol Cold tablets and Generic CVS Nyquil C+
