Bazooka Joe

Never a fan of Joe Biden, I see he just ruined his miniscule presidential hopes today.

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and
bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook,
man.”

What a dumbass! Besides being a pompous ass with an extraordinarily inflated ego, it seems Joe Biden is also a bigot. Not to gloss over this but if there is a bright side it's that maybe Biden will stop showing up on my TV.

I commend you for being evenhanded enough to label Biden a bigot even though his party's name begins with a 'D'. Biden's what Ed Koch used to call "an empty suitcase" - he is a shallow, career pol.

However, I must also tar and feather you a bit for calling him a 'bigot'. It's clear what he meant to say and that he is guilty of nothing more than a slight gaffe - I suspect you know as much, your just being PC again.

Hell, even Jesse Jackson has given the guy a pass here. Think about it - if, in our everyday lives, someone were to make a similar gaffe, would anyone in proximity - black or white - think it racist for a moment? Hell no. Its BS.

But for some reason, when we are presented with these things on TV, people's minds turn to mush and they judge with the haste and harshness of a lynch mob.

Awkward gaffes of the sort Biden made - and the hysterical reaction of some to it - are yet another example of how the straight jacket of political correctness suffocates any discussion to which the spectre of race is of even peripheral significance.

Wanna prove you aren't a racist? Stop being so squeamish about race.

Umm, why would I want to prove I'm not a racist. That would be saying there is some actual validity to the claim.

So if I understand correctly, I'm a racist because:

(1) I'm sweamish about race (in Joe's powerful estimation)
(2) I listen to Public Enemy
(3) I listen to other gangsta rap like Ice Cube
(4) I'm a liberal

Do us all a favor and get a clue.

BTW, I never used the word racist to describe Biden. I specifically used bigot because I thought it was the most appropriate, esp given his various other comments (Indians and 7-11, wishes Delaware were a slave state, etc). Try to stay up to speed.

Tom,

I invite you and any of your readers to compare the words of Ice Cube (which you claim to approve of) which I posted here recently with those of any of Biden's gaffes (which you claim evidnce bigotry). If Biden's words suffice to make him a bigot in your estimation, and Cube's do not, you clearly hold blacks to a considerably lower moral standard than whites, as Cube's words are unambiguously racist whereas Biden's are merely forhead smacking "DOH!" moments.

BTW, I never said liberal = racist, where'd you get that from? I wouldn't say someone who listens to black racist rap is necessarily a racist or self-flagellating white either. I know people who like PEs music who I wouldn't characterize as such - but they don't deny that these guys are effed up and racist, either, as you seem to do, which is very condescending towards black people, inmy opinion.

Both Cube and PE (most of it s members, anyway) are open advocates of racial separatism, which I'm sure you are not. Sure, it might be in large measure a gimmick, but if it is, it's a very irresponsible, ugly and divisive gimmick.

Ice Cube is worse than PE; he has openly advocated race war and genocide of whites in his lyrics. He promoted the anti-semitic, anti-gay, anti-Catholic, anti-white racist Khalid Abdul Muhammaed, even oputting him on some of his albums and videos. You'd almost certainly deride whites doing comparable things as racists - why is it OK for blacks?

Well,it's not OK, and I suspect you know agree.

I believe this is simply an awkward attempt on your part to disassociate yourself from the ugly history of white racism against blacks. Your heart may be in the right place in some sense, but in the end this type of guilt driven condescension does nothing to foster racial reconciliation.
