Don't Call it a Comeback

The Republicans are salivating at Sen. Tim Johnson's possible resignation due to health issues. If he were to resign, the Republican governor of South Dakota could assign a replacement handing the Republicans control of the U.S. Senate.

Isn't it a premature for the press to be reporting on this aspect? Johnson is seriously sick man. It just seems tacky, sadistic, and insensitive. Right now Johnson and his family are worried about one thing: his health. Control of the Senate might not even make the top 10 list of priorities.

Tim Johnson: Today, even a person's health is political.

Besides it is not like the Democrats will have that much control in the new Senate. Sure... they get to propose legislation and can break tied votes on committees, but they will come up short when tallying the floor votes. It is completely plausible that not a whole heck will be accomplished in the next 2 years.

It might be better if the Democrats lose the Senate. The blame game works well in Washington. If the Democrats can milk the Republican incompetence in 2008, they can have bigger gains in the Senate.

No matter what the outcome is... The Republican party has been destroyed. The American people are tired of incompetence, and the politics of fear. They want hope and trustworthy leaders.

The Republicans have nothing to offer to the average American. Fear and the repeal of the inheritance tax will NOT pay for the groceries or our growing energy bills. It will also not fix the mess in the Middle East, our declining dollar, trade imbalance, and the growing pressures mounting on the Middle Class.

Would Republicans have wanted to replace Teri Schiavo if she were in Johnson's seat?

Just asking, since people were so quick to pronounce Johnson unfit to serve.
