Summer Babe

I'm lazy so I'm not actually going to look up the start of summer. Plus, it feels like summer to me so that's all that really matters. And with the start of summer means it's time for me to start looking for my summer babe. I'm actually using that convoluted opening to highlight the Pavement song "Summer Babe" from their classic CD "Slanted & Enchanted". For one reason or another, that song signals the start of summer for me. As with many bands I love, Pavement are probably millionaire assholes selling out stadiums in another world. But here, they are my friends, in the way a CD can be your companion. And I would like to thank them for making such timeless songs. And truth be told, if I ever saw a woman mixing cocktails with her plastic tip cigars I would probably propose on the spot.

"Summer Babe"
Ice baby,
I saw your girlfriend and she was
Eating her fingers like theyre just another meal
But she waits there
In the levee washes
Mixin cocktails with a plastic-tipped cigar

My eyes stick to all the shiny roses
You wear on the protein delta strip
In an abandoned house but I will wait there
Ill be waiting forever...
Ill wait and wait and wait...

Minerals, ice deposits daily, dropped off
The first shiny robe
Ive got a lot of things I want to sell, but
Not here, babe-- tortuuurreeee...

Every time I sit around I find Im shot
Every time I sit around I find Im shot
Every time I turn around I find Im shot
Every time I sit around I find Im shot
Every time every time...
Youre my... summer babe
Summer babe
