Rex Grossman Spurs Cubs Onto Victory
On Sunday night I was at Wrigley Field as the Cubs swept the Cardinals in the weekend series. It was absolutely one of the best baseball games I have ever been to. In case you weren't fixed to the game on ESPN, the Cubs were trailing their arch-enemies 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Michael Barret hit a Jason Isringhausen pitch onto Waveland Avenue to put the Cubbies up 7-4. They tacked on another run to win 8-4 and sweep the hated Cards.
Lost in all the frenzy was the reason for the impressive comeback. His name is Rex Grossman. It was only after Rex Grossman's stirring rendition of the 7th inning stretch that the Cubs rallied for the victory. Some might call it coincidental, but I know better. Rex Grossman is the most inspiring cheerleader ever. Kinda puts the Kyle Orton era in perspective, doesn't it. Sure, Orton sucked. I mean, I threw for 40 less yards one week and I was sitting on my couch. But on the sidelines was one Rex Grossman, inspiring his team to victory. It was his energy and cheerleading, not Orton's sucky play, that lead the Bears into the playoffs. And it was because of Rex that the Cubs won on Sunday night.
Is there anything Rex can't do (besides stay healthy)?
