Major League Predictions

Juan Pierre: The Hope for Cubs Nation

First, an apology for not posting over the weekend. I had a pretty awful weekend (not looking for sympathy). I was in the middle of a long post Friday on Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter when my internet connection went out. Of course I had not saved any of it. Then, my security system was going off sporadically all weekend. The funny thing - I've never had it activated. They installed new front doors in my building on Thursday so I'm assuming when they re-connected the intercom system they also connected the security system. And since apparently no one is around on the weekend I had random alarms going off all weekend. Nothing like having an alarm go off at 4am over the weekend. Wish me luck in getting this resolved quickly, before I go insane. To make matters worse, I feel like crap this morning - feels like I have some sort of cold.

With all the above said, today is one of the greatest days of the year. Hope springs eternal as it's the start on another baseball season. I will try to add more in-depth analysis later, but I wanted to get my predictions out there before some crippling opening day injury occurs. So here are the standard predictions - I need to put some thought into other awards and predictions:

American League
East - NY Yankees
Central - Chicago White Sox
West - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Wild Card - Cleveland Indians

ALDS: Cleveland over Yankees, Angels over White Sox
ALCS: Angels over Cleveland
MVP: Vladimir Guerrero
Cy Young: Johan Santana

National League
East - Atlanta Braves
Central - St Louis Cardinals
West - San Diego Padres
Wild Card - Chicago Cubs

NLDS: St Louis over San Diego, Cubs over Braves
NLCS: St Louis over Cubs
MVP: Albert Pujols (his for the next 10 years)
Cy Young: Carlos Zambrano

World Series: St Louis over the Angels

It's probably the start of baseball season or maybe the lack of sleep from the damn alarm making me go with the Cubs. I just really don't like any of the other teams in the National League. And I look at it this way, the Cubs were in the wild card race all last year even with all their flaws. Now, they should have a very strong bullpen, a legitimate leadoff man (I love the jet-quick Juan Pierre), and a healthy Aramis Ramirez. Plus, I LOVE Matt Murton - he's gonna be a very good player for the next 10 years. So you add all the positives and realize there really are no new negatives and I think you can add 10 wins to that team. And if they get anything out of Wade Miller, Mark Prior, and Kerry Wood, that could be a few more wins. Then again, they are the Cubs and I may just be drinking the Kool-Aid.

Update:

Cubs won 16-7 today. Dare I say it - 162-0 season is within our reaches. Will Matt Murton hit 162 HRs. Will Juan Pierre score 486 runs? Guess only time will tell.
