Was Mr Roper, you know?

Tom G has decided to stay in on a Friday night, so you'll be getting some unplanned posts. Let's just say I'm very tired and I spent hundreds of dollars to get tickets to 8 Cubs games today - I may have gone a little overboard. So it's me, Tom Waits, and some Miller Lite tonight with some late night "Network", "Mother", or that Metallica documentary (haven't decided which to watch yet).

Now I know Mr Roper was married and all but he always seemed a little, you know. I'm still not sure, but here are some facts to back up the idea that maybe he was, you know.

  1. He appeared to be deathly allergic to the touch of his wife. Now, they never delved into the Roper's past, so maybe that's where the answer lies. For all I know their marriage was one of convenience or for tax purposes or for US citizenship. Still, Mrs Roper was extremely horny and was constantly trying to get Stanley in the mood. But he made it clear that he was not having it.
  2. Jack pretended to be gay to move into the apartment. The conventional idea is that Jack did this because he was living with 2 females. And during this time period apparently this was frowned upon and might have prevented him from being allowed to live there. But that argument seems rather week. Wouldn't it make more sense to say he was a relative of Janet or Chrissy? My belief is that he sensed Mr Roper's proclivity and adjusted accordingly (Jack always had a little bit of, you know, too). That makes much more sense when we come to...
  3. He was always in their business. And he seemed to take a lot of interest in Jack. Maybe it was normal for landlords to spend so much time with their tenants, but that always struck me as odd. Unless of course, he was looking for a little...

So there you have it. It's not a definite answer but I hope this helps you decide for yourself whether Mr Roper may have been a little, you know.
