Republicans Worried About Minority Rights?

I used to vote Republican. I know that is shocking. I don't think I could ever do it again. They just seem like such a bunch of manipulative wusses.

Back in 2004, the majority GOP destroyed the "Minority Bill of Rights" proposed by Nancy Pelosi. In short this bill would strengthen the committee and amendment process and ensure that the all members of Congress have enough time to review legislation.

Sounds like a good bill, right? The GOP refused to listen. Now that they are in the minority, guess what the Republicans are proposing? That's right crapateers: a "Minority Bill of Rights." Strange how it is almost identical to Nancy's 2004 proposal.

Now this bill has a lot of great ideas. I am actually 100% in favor of it. The only thing that gets me is the hypocritical Republican stance. This real shows what a bunch of idiots they are.
  • Bills should only come to the floor after full hearings, open subcommittee and committee markup, and with members having a full 24 hours to review legislation prior to consideration at the subcommittee level.
  • Bills should normally be considered under a procedure that allows open, full, and fair debate consisting of a full amendment process that grants all members the right to offer amendments or substitutes.
  • Members should be allowed a full 24 hours to examine bills and conference reports before they come to the floor; and rules governing debate must be reported before 10:00 p.m. for a bill to be considered the next day.

Today's Republicans are not Republicans at all. That is something that most old school Republican supporters have a hard time understanding.

My dad will probably vote for anyone with a R attached to their name for the rest of his life. However, he supports very few of the Republican stances. It makes no sense.

I agree with what is said above to a large degree. However, much of the current ineptness of the Republican party is standard operating procdure for the Democrats (raising taxes, growing government, doing nothing to curtail illegal immigration and expanding affirmative-action, etc.)

Sure, W made a mess of Iraq, but no where near as BAD a mess as it will be if the country is handed over to Iran's lapdog, Muqtada al-Sadr, whch is effectivelyw hat the newly elected Democrats want to do.

Who knows? After the Dems heroic 'redeployment', we may just live to see an Iraq with WMD after all!

We probably never should've went into Iraq in the first place, but having done so, we must finish what we started, not 'redeploy'. Yes, the democrats ARE weak...

But at least they support stem cell research - that is one good thing. And they are not joined to the hip of the religious right. But they are just as firmly joined at the hip to the racial greivance industry (Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhanm, etc.), so what difference does it make?

Maybe this crap is the best we can hope for - power divided between the various branches of govt so as noether Red dolts nor Blue dolts can do too much damage.

Actually I am 100% favor of divided government for the reasons that you state. Better results can in fact come from compromises.

Iran will take over Iraq, because we can not bring stability. If the entire Middle East is involved with the Iraq struggle there is a chance we can prevent Iran from taking it over. I know most Americans including myself shiver at the prospect of working with Iran, Saudi Arabia, and all these other wacko leaders, but we have run out of options.

All that money we spent on this stupid war could have been spent on developing fuel alternatives or to improve fuel economy on our cars. We could effectively give the middle finger to this region and never send them a dime again. No money equals no more terrorism. What else does this region provide besides a haven for drug crops any ways? We could let them rot in the desert.
