Bush Hates Students Too

Why does Bush hate working Americans? Most likely, he will veto everything that will come to his desk that affects his corporate pals. The House voted overwhelmingly (356-71) to reduce student loans from 6.8% to 3.4%. Approximately 5.5 million students (subsidized student loans) will benefit from this measure and Bush is against it.

Initially the Democratic party proposed that all student loans would be reduced, but this irritated a lot of Republicans whose loyalty is strong with the banks. The bill was modified so that it would pass with support from most Republicans. It is a half way decent compromise, but what good is it when Bush plans to veto it?

If you wanna be partisan, you would have never reached a compromise bill. Since the bill is popular with the public, you would want as many Republicans to be against it as possible. If Bush is gonna veto it regardless, then why not make the Republicans look bad...if that is your only goal. But if you wanna serve the American public you try to find a solution. And given the level of support it may be possible to override Bush's veto.

My guess though - we'll keep hearing about how Democrats need to stop being so partisan. Funny how we didn't hear the outrage the last 12 years.
