Perez Traded for Perez

Just before the trade deadline the Cubs were able to make one of the biggest blockbuster trades of all time, trading Neifi Perez and Todd Walker to the San Diego Padres for Neifi Perez and 19 year-old Jose Ceda. "As sad as we were to lose Neifi, we are excited to be getting back someone as quality as Neifi," an emotional Dusty Baker informed the media.

As much as the Cubs will miss Todd Walker's bat, the trade ensures Dusty Baker will not keep Walker on the bench in exchange for the week-hitting and average fielding of Neifi Perez.

"Dude, to be honest I kinda forgot that Walk was still on the team. Just the other day I looked down my bench and was startled to see him anxiously awaiting a pinch hitting opportunity. I guess when you have someone like Neifi it's just too easy to pencil him into the lineup and forget you have someone who hits a helluva lot better and fields just slightly worse."

No one may have been more surprised that Neifi Perez himself. "Man, it's been a whirlwind last 30 minutes. It's kinda hard to explain, all the emotions I'm feeling right now. For a second I was in San Diego and then I was headed back to the Cubs. It sure is nice to be loved."

A certain general manager, who declined to go on the record, said, "It's a little frustrating. We offered Todd Walker AND Neifi Perez to the Padres. And we thought we had a deal. But then the Padres offered us Jose Ceda AND Neifi Perez in exchange. But it's the best we could do. Plus, we just swept the Cards so we'll easily sell out next year. It's time for a well-deserved 9 month vacation."

In other news, the Cubs traded 5 time Cy Young Award winner and future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux for Dodgers infielder Cesar Izturis. It's been rumored that Izturius has the makings of a future Neifi Perez.

Neifi needs to go. I am still upset that Walker was traded. He was, in my opinion, one of the highlights of the Cubs team. And this year, there haven't been many. They didn't get anyone big in exchange, so what's the big deal? OBP is what matters, so the Cubs keep the nasty Neifi and get rid of a quality Walker? Please! And Neifi is not a nice person in general. When I went to a spring training game in Surprise, Arizona, he just yelled at the fans for being too rowdy and calling his name. He claimed they were bothering him when he was trying to warm up. Walker did not show any actions like this. The bottom line is that Walker should still be wearing pinstripes and Neifi should have been shipped away.

I'm not even sure why the Cubs ever signed Todd Walker. Almost from day one they were telling us how awful his defense was. I still can't believe they signed Neifi to a 2 year contract. If he never plays another game for the Cubs I'm fine with that. I used to think he was an ok backup, but said any team where Neifi frequently starts will not be good. Now I've modified it to say any team with Neifi on their roster will be bad.
