There have been rumblings from the right wing propaganda machine about extending our participation in the Middle East to countries besides Afghanistan and Iraq. I've been silent about this noise because I find it hard to believe. However, the noise is not going away and is actually getting louder in some quarters. So I have a simple proposition to make to our elected officials and everyone who advocates for more war - ENLIST!!!

In fact, I propose the following law - the sons & daughers of every government official (elected & otherwise) must be eligible to serve in the armed forces if the nation requires their service. So in cases like now where our brave servicemen and servicewomen are risking their lives in ever longer and more frequent tours of duty, we could turn to government officials' families to help America. Since these are the people making the decisions, it's only fair that they have some risks associated with making such life and death decisions. Maybe then they would actually have to consider the consequences of military actions.

So next time you hear someone advocating for additional or continual US military action, please ask them when they are planning to enlist for the cause. If they are too old, ask them where their relatives are serving.

the quickest way to get people's heads out of their a---s would be to make a law like israel has- everybody up to a certain age has to do military service. compulsory. we want a militaristic society- then i say start building one. start with all of the registered repubs and dinos(dems in name only) and expand to the church congregations. that ought to get the ball rolling. these folks want the rapture- let's get them to heaven a little quicker- that way they don't have to sit around ruining my perfectly good planet in hopes that jesus will come sooner. seriously- do they think that he would come sooner if they ruin the planet to hasten the end of the world? how much hubris is that? here i thought that they were supposed to give up self to god. draft!!!

sorry about the rant. good post.

I agree. With a strict draft (people of privilege could not get out) people might start to consider the ramifications of war and aggression. Until then, it's just some poor smo who has no signification to them - their life is expendable. I watched "Farenheit 9/11" on July 4th and feel that is where the movie should have gone. The final 15 minutes with the Patriot Act and trying to get Congressmen to sign up their children, and asking the question why do people with the least so willing to fight for our country's freedom.
