It's unbelievable! The popemobile has made the 2006 Car and Driver Top Ten List for coolest car ever coming in at a respectable number 7! Seven is a holy number! How awesome is that?There has been many cool cars throughout history. The Hitlermobile was scary as all hell. The Cadillac convertible that JFK got shot in was historic and tragic. The 1977 El Camino; enough said. But no car has captured the public's imagination like the popemobile: roomy, bullet proof, slower than a hippo, white, and it can go off-road.
This poses the question: Who is more popular; the pope or the popemobile? To answer this long debated question we will look to the Philippines. Shortly after Pope John Paul died, millions of Filipinos made a pilgrimage to Quiapo Church to console the car. In my opinion a popemobile without a pope is like a dog leash without a dog! Not very much fun, kind of sad, and somewhat pointless. Although I hate to disagree with millions of Filipinos. Read this wikipedia account for more popemobile fun facts.
