The Moustache Hall of Fame

As I was watching highlights from past Final Fours last weekend, I was reminded of one of my favorite college basketball players of all time. He is Gimel Martinez, F/C for the early '90s Kentucky Wildcats. He was part of Pitino's boys that restored the program to prominence after years of violations and probations (almost the death penalty). He's featured prominently in any highlights of what's been regarded as the greatest college basketball game of all time (1992 Kentucky vs Duke). In fact, he's the guy behind Christian Laettner as he makes the game winning shot.

But what really makes him so memorable is his moustache. So I'm inducting him into The Moustache Hall of Fame.

As a side note - watch that final shot carefully some time. Once Laettner catches the ball, the second defender (Jared Prickett?) backs away and watches Laettner score. In slow motion, it's brutal - how could he not put a hand up at the very least? How come this is never mentioned when the game is broken down. There have only been maybe a thousand specials done on this game and no one ever mentions this. The only thing worse is the Laimbeer phantom foul on Kareem in the '88 NBA Championship which is NEVER shown on replays.
